Note in upper right hand of chart says: Acrewalls was part of the Manor of Wedikres [??] in the Parish of St. Bees. It remained in the Steele family till 1836. The devise [?] at that time was customary, subject to a fine on the death of the lord of the manor, later it became freehold. The last Joseph Steele of Acrewalls died in 1835, he married his housekeeper, Miss Harrison, and left the estate to her, after his death she became Baroness de Sternberg.
