Post, Stephen (b. 1596, d. 16 AUG 1659)
Note: Stephen Post was trained as a carpenter. He immigrated to Massachusetts about 1634 and first settled in Cambridge, Massachusetts. He soon followed the Reverend Thomas Hooker to Hartford, where he is listed on the Founders' Monument as one of the city's original landholders. In 1646 he moved down the Connecticut River to Saybrook.
He is the ancestor of Charles W. Post, who founded the Post Cereal Company, and thus of Margery Meriwether Post, the socialite, and her daughter the actress Dina Merrill.

Note: Robert Tiptoft succeeded to his father's lands in 1249 or 1250. In 1265-6 he was made governor of Porchester Castle. He accompanied King Edward I to the Holy Land and in 1275, Edward appointed him governor of Nottingham Castle. in 1280-1 he was appointed justice of South Wales, a post he held until his death, and governor of Cardigan and Carmarthen Castles. He sat in the Parliaments of 1276 and 1290.
He played a leading part in supressing the rebellion of Rhys ab Mereduc in 1287-8, taking his castle and capturing him. He sent Rhys to York where he was hanged, drawn and quartered.
In 1294 he was named of of John of Brittany's counsellors and lieutenant in the expedition to recover Gascony and John of Brittany sent him to negotiate an alliance with Sancho IV of Castile.
At the end of his life, in 1297, he took part in Edwatd I's expedition against Scotland. he died the following year at his manor at Nettlestead.
