Holland, Cornelius (b. 3 MAR 1599)
Note: Cornelius Hollanded entered the Merchant Taylors' School in January 1609/10, and Pembroke Hall, Cambridge (where he was listed as a "gentleman") in 1614. He received a B.A. degree in 1618.

He entered the service of Sir Henry Vane, Puritan politician and governor of Massachusetts. In 1635 Holland served as clerk-controller of the Household of the Prince of Wales (the future Charles II) and held an office under the Board of Green Cloth. he amassed a considerable fortune at this time. He is said to have given his daughter Elizabeth a marriage portion of £5000. But he refused to contribute to the expenses of the Scottish war and was alienated from the Court.

In 1640 he was elected to the Long Parliament but took no part in debate and appeared to have acted under the guidance of Vane. In 1643 he signed the Solemn League and Covenant and was one of the commissioners for arranging the peace with Scotland.

He became a member of the Council of State in 1649 and is said to have had the chief hand in drawing up the charges against King Charles I. But he was not present when the King was condemned to death and did not sign the warrant for his execution. His services to Parliament were rewarded with substantial grants of land in England and Bermuda, and he enjoyed several lucrative offices, including keeper of Richmond Park.

At the Restoration in 1660, he was among those excepted from the Bill of Indemnity and thus is considered one of the regicides. But he managed to escape to Holland and probably joined his fellow exiles in Lausanne, where he is presumed to have died.
