Hesketh, Thomas (b. 1466, d. 14 AUG 1523)

Note: Thomas Hasketh had no legitimate children by his two wives and made his three children by his mistress his heirs.

He owned much land in Lancashire, including the manors of Rufford, Great harwood, Tottleworth, Croston, and Mawdesley. He added greatly to the possessions he inherited and built the great hall of Rufford Old Hall, considered one of the finest 15th-century buildings in Lancashire. The hall has a hammerbeam roof and other elaborate features including "the unique and supposedly moveable screen . . . , surmounted by fanciful carvings of a barbaric, almost Polynesian richness."

He was auditor for the Earls of Derby.
